INFOGRAPHIC POSTER - FINAL DESIGN
This is the final design representing a ‘Brief in the Life of Me.’ This was a smaller project to run alongside my main project for my first module. Its a reflection of me and my partners time on our first live brief.
This was an important little project for me to do as it is quite personal and used a lot of personal information that I needed to ensure I kept, and used. This is a design I want to keep forever, stick on the wall in my study, and refer back to when I am working on similar projects. It shows the harder times through a brief and the rewarding times (usually towards the end when you supply the finals!).
But it shows that, even though you think there is no end in sight when you are struggling through a hard project, you always come out the other side one way or another. You have to go through some of the emotional battering for the project to have been worthwhile, it doesn’t always come easy!
The circle also represents the lifetime of a brief. Its a circle, you take on a project, you go through the ups and downs, round and round ‘in circles’ and then once you have finished, you start alllll over again, on another. This is the ‘Circle of Design Life’ maybe??
I decided to make each section of data as accurate as possible. This meant that planning was essential and took up about two thirds of the workload making this visual. The emails are accurate and the days and events are all reflected in the mood/stress/work intensity. The miles travelled are as accurate as I could get them and all the dates are correct. This took a considerable amount of time, more than I had anticipated.
I think its interesting to see how the intensity of the colours directly correlates with the dates and events in hand. They all get more intense aorund the time the 3rd and final drafts were being prepared, as the deadline was looming and the nights were getting longer and time was getting shorter. Also the amount of emails shows how much intense correspondence there was around this period and I think this refelects in a lot of the other data. Some of the correspondence was negative, and some positive, this is shown by the ‘stress’ level.
All the colours reflect the particular brief that I am detailing, they are the particular company’s colour palette This is so it has a direct connection to the brief, without being obvious who it was I was working for. This is more for myself, I want to be able to remember this brief, start to finish, good times and bad - to show to myself and my partner, we are a good team.
If I had more time to do this project (instead of a day and a half!!) I would maybe expand it. Experiment with more type and colours, possibly using more infographics and expanding into a flow chart instead.
I would like to possibly do one for each major project I do. However, as I found with this, keeping track of the day to day activities on such a level, is hard! But as this was not only a personal project, but also a Uni one, it was easier to keep up to date.
I am happy with both this mini-project (poster) and my major one (the actual brief I am reflecting in the poster). This has been a successful first module in my MA Communication Design. :)
Just discovered Amelia doing a project that there may be some cross over ideas/work we can collaborate on!
